Colorado 38 Colorado State 17
Colorado took care of business against their in-state rival. Cody Hawkins had 2 TDs rushing along with 219 through the air. The teams traded kickoff return for TDs in the 2nd quarter.
Buffs score!
Colorado scores on a 35 yard TD Pass from Cody Hawkins to Scotty McKnight. After the PAT, it's 7-0 Buffs, early in the 2nd quarter.
Rock Mountain Showdown Update
After 1 quarter, the game is scoreless. Colorado State had a chance in Buff territory, but turned it over on downs. Buffs are driving at the beginning for the 2nd.
Sunday Action
Kentucky defeated Louisville 27-2. The Cardinals committed 5 turnovers, leading to 21 points for Kentucky. Steve Kragthorpe is still trying clean house and rebuild the Cardinal program. The question is, How long will the Louisville faithful be patient with him.
Kentucky is looking at being 4-0 going into a showdown with Alabama.

Day 1 Review
Some thought from the 1st Saturday in the 2008 College Football season:
Oklahoma State got exactly what it needed with the win over Washington State. The Pokes should be 4-0 going into the Big 12 opener against Texas A&M. Plus, the way A&M fared today, 5-0 is very possible.
Oklahoma did exactly what was expected, winning 57-2 over Chattanooga. The Sooners also avoided injuries. The game should have been stopped at halftime when some bad weather came in.
Missouri stated its case for being among the elite, winning 52-42 over Illinois. Both teams will do just fine this year.
Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, and Nebraska all picked up expected easy victories over their opponents.
Texas A&M suffered an embarrassing loss at the hands of Arkansas State in College Station. Not exactly a splash of a debut for Mike Sherman. May be a long season in Aggieland.
Thoughts on other games throughout the nation:
Tulsa picked up an impressive season opening road win at Alabama-Birmingham.
Alabama was very impressive in its thumping of Clemson. Clemson looked very mediocre. I was wrong on this game. The Tide looks like they are going to have a special season in Tuscaloosa.
Utah over Michigan was not an upset. Only because it was in Ann Arbor does it feel like an upset. Most anyone that pays attention to college football knew that Utah was the better team.
Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh fell on their faces with losses to East Carolina and Bowling Green, respectively. East Carolina used Beamer-Ball against the Hokies, blocking a punt and returning it for a TD in the final minutes. Bowling Green dominated the 2nd half against the Panthers.
USC sent their message against Virginia. No surprise there.
Chuck Long needs to start updating his resume. His San Diego State Aztecs lost to Cal Poly 29-27.
Mississippi State suffered a shocking loss to Louisiana Tech 22-14. That takes some of the momentum of last year's good vibes for the Bulldogs,
Arkansas, Maryland, North Carolina and San Jose State had some tougher than expected games against FCS (Division I-AA) Schools.

Day 1 of the 2008 College Football season is almost in the books.
Big 12 recap:

Sam Bradford was, well, Sam Bradford, going 17-22 for 182 yards and 2 TDs in 1 half of play. After a lengthy weather delay at halftime, the Sooners basically just got the game over with.
Oklahoma State 39 Washington State 13- Excellent opening performance for OSU. Spud Hunter had 112 yards on the ground with 2 TDs. Dez Bryant had 7 catches for 92 yds and a 42 yard punt return. Perrish Cox returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. The Cowboy Defense was excellent, allowing only 196 yards and garnering a safety.
Arkansas State 18 Texas A&M 14- Yes that is the correct score. A&M led by 14-3 at half. The Red Wolves ran for 255 yards on the Aggie defense. Stephen McGee did not state a very good case for him being the starting QB. Aggies had 4 turnovers. Maybe Mike Sherman had better not unpack his bags.
Texas 52 Florida Atlantic 10- Colt McCoy was spectacular for the Horns, completing 24 of 29 passes for 222 yards and 3 TDs, and rushing, yes rushing, for 102 yards. The Horns defense made sure that Howie knew who was tougher today.
Missouri 52 Illinois 42- Wow. This was a wild game. Juice Williams was 26 for 42 for 451 yards, 5TDs and 2 INTs in a losing cause. Chase Daniel was 26 for 43 for 323 yards and 3 TDs. The tigers got a boost from Derrick Washington, who rushed for 127 yards. Chase Caufman had 9 catches for 120 yards. Will Judson had 5 catches for 177 yards and 2 TDs. Jeremy Maclin had a 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Sean Witherspoon returned an INT for a TD for Mizzou and Derek Walker did likewise for Illinois.
Texas Tech 45 Eastern Washington 24- Graham Harrell did have over 500 yards passing, but only 2 TDs. Eastern Washington will give alot of teams fits.

Michigan goes down, Oklahoma rolling early
Utah finished off Michigan 25-23. This was predicted my most everyone.
Oklahoma is up 20-0 in the 1st quarter on Tennessee-Chattanooga. Just being real basic. Manuel Johnson has caught a few passes so far. Demarco Murray and Chris Brown have each rushed for a TD, and Sam Bradford threw a TD pass to Quentin Chaney.
Only blemish so far is a missed extra point.

Cowboys take care of business
Oklahoma State defeats Washington State 39-13.
After a slow 1st half that was dominated by the Cowboy defense, the Special Teams and Offense picked it up in the 2nd half. Kendall "Spud" Hunter rushed for 112 yards and 2 TDS. Dez Bryant made some excellent catches in the 2nd half, finishing with 7 catches for 92 yards. Zac Robinson was solis, going 20-27 for 196 and an interception on a deflection. He also rushed for a touchdown.
The special teams matchup was the most glaring advantage the Cowboys had. Ricky Price returned a punt 67 yards, Dez Bryant returned a punt 42 yards and Perrich Cox answered a Cougar score with a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Dan Bailey was 3 for 3 on field goals and 4 for 4 on extra points. Washington State missed and extra point and had some poor punts the Cowboys took advantage of.
The defense played pretty well. They had a rough spell in the 3rd quarter, when Wazzu scored 2 touchdowns. Overall though, 13 points was exactly what Cowboys fans wanted. They pressured Wazzu QB Gary Rogers all day and finally got an interception in the 4th quarter.
This is exactly what the Cowboys needed to get the momentum going into 4 straight home game. The Pokes should be 4-0 entering their October 4th showdown with Texas A&M in Stillwater.

Mid-day analysis
Oklahoma State leads Wazzu 15-0 The Defense has really shown up to play, getting a safety and letting off only about 50 yds of offense. The offense is sputtering a little. They look to be keeping it a little vanilla.
Pittsburgh and Viginia Tech laid some eggs today. Listening to some of the Pitt-Bowling Green game on Sirius, Pitt jumped ahead early, but the Falcons controlled the rest of the game. So much for Pitt having a breakthrough season.
Did not see any of the Hokies' game, I was watching my brother play baseball. I just saw the score when I got home. Skip Holtz has his team starting well.

Day 3/4 of College Football (OK Saturday needs to get here already!!)
Well only 2 games tonight:
Temple 35 Army 7- Too many mistakes for the Black Knights. Temple may be improving.
Rice 56 SMU 20 (4th Q)- Rice looks real good. SMU was good early, but June Jones has alot of work to do. I think he'll be OK. Hawaii was 0-12 before Jones, 9-4 in his 1st year.
A few questions I have for tomorrow:
1. Should Michigan be favored over Utah?
2. Does Appalachian State have a prayer vs LSU?
3. Does USC send a message against Virginia?
4. Can Oklahoma State win an important game away from home?
5. Will Graham Harrell throw for over 500, Micheal Crabtree get over 200 receiving and Texas Tech reach 80?
6. Is Alabama getting too much repect because Nick(tator) Saban is the coach?
7. Is Clemson in the same breath because of Tommy Bowden?
8. Will Missouri send a message?

Day 1/2 of College Football- Saturday is the full opening day
In the Big 12:
Iowa State with an easy victory 44-17 over South Dakota State.
Wake Forest is blasting Baylor. Inauspicious start for Art Briles.
Other notes:
Spurrier is up to his old tricks. Up 27-0 in the 4th, and throwing. 1st QB throws 4 oskies. Hook. Next QB 5 for 5 with 2 TDs. NC State with 138 yards of total offense. Ouch! Game was 3-0 at half. Double Ouch!
Oregon State and Stanford is interesting. Now tied at 20.
One more of interest: Buffalo 42 UTEP 17. Turner Gill has things in the land of the Bills and Bulls going in the right direction. Someone gave him a chance. Hopefully it will pay off.

Can hardly wait for College Football!
It's almost fall and time for one of the most wonderful stretches of the year. College Football is back in the American world.
The first week of the football season usually can be a little light on marquee games. The opening weekend of 2008 does have some intriguing matchups.
1. Missouri vs Illinois (in St. Louis)
Big 12 Runner-Up Mizzou returns one of the nations top quarterbacks in Chase Daniel.
This Texas gunslinger can tear up opposing defenses in many different ways. With Jeremy
Macklin and Chase Coffman at his disposal, I imagine that the Faurot Field maintenance crew
had better have spare light bulbs ready. Tigers fans see the crystal of the BCS National
Championship trophy.
Big 10 Rose Bowl Rep Illinois is coming off of a banner season; a season that gave coach Ron
Zook some job security. Now it is time for the Illini to show that last year was not a fluke.
Losing Rashard Mendenhall will not help matters, but having a more experienced Juice
Williams will help to keep the Illini very good.
This is a very even matchup on paper. Two explosive and exciting offenses. Whoever plays
the best defense, really who can keep the other team from scoring a bunch of points, is the key
to determine who wins the game. Each team is looking for a breakthrough season. Mizzou is
looking for a Big 12 Title, BCS and maybe a National Title berth. Illinois is looking to provthat
last year was not a fluke.
If this game is as good as advertised, and is a harbinger of things to come this year, we are in
for a wild and crazy college football season. I going with Mizzou 41 Illinois 38. I wouldn't bet
the farm on that.
2. Other games of note:
NC State @ South Carolina- It's put up or shut up time for the Ol' Ball Coach. O'Brien is
getting things going in Wolf Pack Land. Can Spurrier turn South Carolina into Florida? South
Carolina 28-27 (Only because they are at home)
Oklahoma State @ Washington State- Can the Cowboys open well on the road? How
good is Wazzu? Zac Robinson is the most unheralded QB in the nation. Ride Em Cowboys!

Clemson vs Alabama (in Atlanta, GA)- Is this the year of Saban? Does Clemson finally
get to a BCS bowl? Will Alabama's young defense be enough to tame the Tigers? Nope.

3. Other Big 12 Games:
Tennesse-Chattanooga @ Oklahoma- I sure the hope the money the Mocs are getting is
worth it. OU just wants no injuries. OU 63-3

North Texas @ Kansas State- Wildcats have JUCOs galore. Mean Green had no defense
last year. Might be ugly. K-State 38-24
South Dakota State @ Iowa State- Cyclones were decent at the end of last year. Could be
a surprise team. Jackrabbits are ok in old DI-AA. Cyclones 31-17
Florida Atlantic @ Texas- When will Howard learn to shut up? Can Texas retake the
South throne? Will Colt McCoy get to stay off the ground? Run it up Mack! Texas 55-7
Eastern Washington @ Texas Tech- When and if Tech starts playing average defense,
they are dang scary. Eagles are darn good in the FCS or whatever it's called. (It's still I-AA to
me) Harrell throws for 500 and 5 TDs. Red Raiders 63-28
Arkansas State @ Texas A&M- Aggies look to get better under Sherman. Red Wolves try
to get used to the new name. McGee wants to show he is the man. A&M 33-14
Wake Forest @ Baylor- Grobe is a good guy, a good coach with a good team. Baylor looks to improve under Briles. Don't know what we'll get. Wake 27-21

Zook some job security. Now it is time for the Illini to show that last year was not a fluke.
Losing Rashard Mendenhall will not help matters, but having a more experienced Juice
Williams will help to keep the Illini very good.
This is a very even matchup on paper. Two explosive and exciting offenses. Whoever plays
the best defense, really who can keep the other team from scoring a bunch of points, is the key
to determine who wins the game. Each team is looking for a breakthrough season. Mizzou is
looking for a Big 12 Title, BCS and maybe a National Title berth. Illinois is looking to provthat
last year was not a fluke.
If this game is as good as advertised, and is a harbinger of things to come this year, we are in
for a wild and crazy college football season. I going with Mizzou 41 Illinois 38. I wouldn't bet
the farm on that.

NC State @ South Carolina- It's put up or shut up time for the Ol' Ball Coach. O'Brien is
getting things going in Wolf Pack Land. Can Spurrier turn South Carolina into Florida? South
Carolina 28-27 (Only because they are at home)
Oklahoma State @ Washington State- Can the Cowboys open well on the road? How
good is Wazzu? Zac Robinson is the most unheralded QB in the nation. Ride Em Cowboys!
OSU 45-24
Clemson vs Alabama (in Atlanta, GA)- Is this the year of Saban? Does Clemson finally
get to a BCS bowl? Will Alabama's young defense be enough to tame the Tigers? Nope.

3. Other Big 12 Games:
Tennesse-Chattanooga @ Oklahoma- I sure the hope the money the Mocs are getting is
worth it. OU just wants no injuries. OU 63-3
Colorado ve Colorado State ( in Denver, CO) - Colorado is a sexy pick as the sleeper in
the Big 12 North. Colorado State is starting the Post Lubick Era. Buffs 31-17
FLA International @ Kansas- Hawks want to prove last year was not a fluke. Panthers
get paid. KU 49-7
Western Michigan @ Nebraska- Pelini to finally lead the Huskers, with Dr. Tom's
approval. Bronchos look to improve. Western puts up a fight. Huskers 24-13
North Texas @ Kansas State- Wildcats have JUCOs galore. Mean Green had no defense
last year. Might be ugly. K-State 38-24
South Dakota State @ Iowa State- Cyclones were decent at the end of last year. Could be
a surprise team. Jackrabbits are ok in old DI-AA. Cyclones 31-17
Florida Atlantic @ Texas- When will Howard learn to shut up? Can Texas retake the
South throne? Will Colt McCoy get to stay off the ground? Run it up Mack! Texas 55-7
Eastern Washington @ Texas Tech- When and if Tech starts playing average defense,
they are dang scary. Eagles are darn good in the FCS or whatever it's called. (It's still I-AA to
me) Harrell throws for 500 and 5 TDs. Red Raiders 63-28
Arkansas State @ Texas A&M- Aggies look to get better under Sherman. Red Wolves try
to get used to the new name. McGee wants to show he is the man. A&M 33-14
Wake Forest @ Baylor- Grobe is a good guy, a good coach with a good team. Baylor looks to improve under Briles. Don't know what we'll get. Wake 27-21

Hello
Hello everyone,
This is my first post for this blog. I want to thank everyone who is reading this. I am so excited for College Football season. Living in the Sooner State, things are gearing up for OU and OSU. Big things are expected from each team.
Saturday should hold an easy victory for the Sooners. The Cowboys' matchup with Washington State is interesting. OSU has not played well in road openers in the recent years. But this is a chance for OSU to beat a BCS Conference opponent, on the road. A great chance at that.
I'll talk a little more about the games, not only for OSU and OU, but for the other BIG 12 and NCAA teams as well.
